Fan Bay Shelter - Dover
in 2012 The National Trust acquired Fan Bay near Dover, this was also the site of a precursor to modern RADAR, the iconic Sound Mirrors.
The sound mirrors and associated tunnel complex in the hillside behind, were buried after the military left the site.
High Peak Geotechnical ltd were commissioned to re-excavate and restore the tunnels, to create a visitor access to the sound mirrors.
The tunnels were engineered in the style of the original excavations, using reclaimed railway sleepers to provide support.
The result was a sympathetic restoration which provides a realistic visitor experience.
